Every time that the level of rivers drops, plastic bags can be seen covering the vegetation along its banks.
Top Channel has constantly been reporting the alarming pollution, very close to even tourist areas.
Reactions from local and central authorities have been small. One of the most successful campaigns was that of the Tirana Municipality, started with bakeries and which continued with several other businesses, forcing them to use paper bags or at least sell plastic ones to discourage their usage.
But the situation remains alarming throughout the entire country. A simple observation in the territory makes it clear pretty quickly that strong measures need to be taken.
Today, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, warned that the government was studying a radical decision to ban their usage completely.
