Rama: We must help Presheva

31/01/2012 00:00

The visit in Presheva, the vote in favor of the immunity removal for the
three Socialist MPs, the investigations of January 21st were the
matters for which the opposition leader, Edi Rama, spoke in front of the
Socialist Parliamentary Group.

After thanking the Presheva citizens for the fraternal welcome, Edi Rama mentioned the lack of a maternity hospital and schools in this area populated by Albanians, by proposing a Parliamentary legal initiative.

“There is no time to lose. We must put the things in motion for initiating an first aid, which is very achievable, with the citizens of the Presheva Valley. All new Albanian mothers are obliged to travel far for bringing their children to life. No school has been built in the last 20 years for the education of their children. Let as formulate as soon as possible a parliamentary legal initiative and give funds to their local administration”, Rama declared.

Rama tasked the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Integration, Ditmir Bushati, for preparing a package of propositions and a joint strategy for the Albanians in the region.

Rama: We support the Prosecution

The opposition leader reconfirmed that they will vote for removing the immunity of the Socialist MPs, after the Prosecution’s request.

“Their readiness to make themselves available to the Prosecution’s investigations for the January 21st events honors the Socialist Party and this Parliamentary Group. We give our firm support to the investigation to the General Prosecutor, who is equally feeling the barbarian pressure of a regime that has been cornered by the evidence processed by the FBI. Ina Rama is not a ‘Silvia Conti’ when we need her, and a “boulevard whore’ when we don’t need her. For us, she is the General Prosecutor of the Republic. Supporting her work is in the interest of our country and society, which is above any personal or party interest”, Rama declared.

Rama considered Berisha’s declarations about January 21st as an undermining of Albania’s efforts in building the rule of law.

“The Prime Minister ha openly showed his purposes for taking the Prosecution and the Secret Service under control, by creating a President from his own court. He has even threatened that he will investigate the incumbent President and General Prosecutor after their mandates will be over, and also the families of the victims, without taking in consideration the witch hunt that opposition will have to face, same as when the President of the Republic was Sali Berisha”, Rama declared.

The Socialist leader reminded the failures for the EU candidate status by expressing his concern that the third progress report for Albania’s EU integration process might find Albania without punishments for ones who are responsible for the January 21st killings, and with the unpunished corruption of the former Deputy Prime Minister of the country.
