The opposition leader, Edi Rama, is visiting Germany to meet high rank German officials.

According to the Socialist press release, the meeting with the President of the German Parliament, Mr. Norbert Lammert, was focused on Albania’s EU integration. Rama updated the head of the German Bundestag with the latest developments that are related with the election of the President in a consensual way and the progress of the electoral and parliamentary reforms.

“I remember when we met in Tirana, a few years ago, when we shared our perceptions as regards Albania’s EU perspective. I have always said that Albania, on my opinion and on that of most of the German Parliament, belongs to Europe, but it needs to implement the necessary criteria, so that it will not only be part of Europe, but it will also be a serious candidate for the European Union”, declared the President of the German Parliament, Norbert Lammert.

Edi Rama also met the leader of the German Social-Democratic Party, Mr. Sigmar Gabriel, where he discussed the cooperation between the two parties and specific issues of the government program, such as honest taxes and anti-crisis measures.

“I am very happy to meet my colleague here in Germany and Berlin, and I think that we must cooperate in the years to come, even for the European issues. I also hope that Rama will win in the next elections, same as us in Germany. I know that the situation in Albania is difficult, and we will make everything possible for supporting the democratic, social and economic developments. I repeat that I am happy to have met you in Germany”, declared Sigmar Gabriel.
