Rama: Supporting the banking system

“Political figures of the past or of the present will not be part of the
process”. After meeting with the leading team of the Bank of Albania to
express the government’s support and to guarantee the citizens that our
country’s financial stability is undamaged, Prime Minister Edi Rama
held a press conference at his office.

The questions were about who would succeed Ardian Fullani after leading the Bank of Albania for 10 years. “We need a Governor that is welcomed immediately by the international partners. It is certain that the candidate will come from the financial or banking system”.

The Prime Minister declared that there will be a deep reform in this institution, so that this dramatic episode will never be repeated, making the Bank come stronger and more transparent. The Prime Minister declared that they will undertake the necessary legal amends, while as for the Supervisory Council, he said that they will take their time without rushing and will respect the independence of this institution.

“This is not a process in which the majority must use its votes to take the Bank of Albania under control, or to put it in positions for creating profiles that politicize the process and do not improve the Bank of Albania reputation”, the Prime Minister declared.
