Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, repeated his appeal to the Prime
Minister Sali Berisha and former ally, Ilir Meta, for what he considers
an unprecedented attack towards the elected Socialists in the Fier and
Gjirokaster districts.
“In full solidarity with our electors in Fier and Gjirokaster, and completely aware of the special moral and political significance of the opposition MPs in these districts, and also for the alarming threat against the process of political consensus, due to these attempts for changing the election results at the District Councils of Fier and Gjirokaster, I readdress my appeal to Berisha and Ilir Meta: withdraw from these anti-constitutional actions in these districts”, Rama declared.
SP has been facing the majority’s pressure for taking under control the District Councils that were won by the opposition in the May 8th elections. With councilors changing sides one by one, the Democrats and the Socialist Movement for Integration have been able to gain terrain, regardless the result produced in the last electoral process.
Rama addressed this declaration to the international partners too, appealing them to interfere for avoiding this new election theft. Rama confirmed the opposition’s readiness for respecting the three agreement points that they reached with the ruling party, but on the other hand, he declared that no further steps will be undertaken for qualified majority laws if the government will not withdraw from these attempts for stealing the Socialist mandates in Fier and Gjirokaster.
