Rama: Serbs are using flag as alibi

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared for the Voice of America
that the appearance of a flag in a football field is being used as an
alibi for covering what happened from the first minute of the
Serbia-Albania match, when the Albanian hymn was played.

Mentioning other incidents that took place in Belgrade’s stadium, Rama underlined that the Serbian fans were chanting all the time “kill the Albanians”.

“I think that the Albanian people should feel good that we don’t have any relation to the past. We are convinced that football cannot turn into an instrument of politics”, the Prime Minister underlined.

When asked about the new reports published on foreign media, saying that his brother was arrested, Rama declared that nothing is true and these reports were part of a manipulation.

“I feel sorry for anyone who became part of this manipulation. I feel sorry for those who tried to hide behind and alibi to cover the hate of the past that was uncovered yesterday. There is nothing true about that, but this proves how far from reality and how far from our common goals is what was shown yesterday. Albania and the Albanian people will not fall to this level. We are determined to transform our region from an arena of wars to an oasis of cooperation, social and economic development”, the Prime Minister declared.

He concluded the interview with a message: “We are all proud for our national team, and we are proud that we are making a difference in the Balkan of today”.
