Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama proposed creating a common energy market in the Western Balkans, something that will reduce costs and facilitate energy for all the region’s countries. Speaking in the 10 anniversary of the Energy Committee, this year headed by Albania, Rama insisted this common market is a must.
“It’s only common sense to think that Albania’s natural but sometimes stubborn resources to be complemented by Serbia’s coal resources. An open market between the Balkans countries not only would improve energy provision, but would also guarantee cheaper prices for consumers”, Rama said during his speech.
He also stressed the importance to get past historical controversies and suggested that while infrastructural projects need financial support from the European Union, the common energy market needs only the good will of the countries in the region. Nevertheless he encouraged EU to support this plan saying this was a pan European challenge.
The Energy Committee was established 10 years ago aiming to bring together Southeastern Europe and Black Sea countries with the EU, and to enlarge energy markets and increase investments in this sector.
