The opposition Leader, Edi Rama, gathered the Socialist Parliamentary
Group in which he mentioned the EU integration issue, accusing the
Berisha government as the only responsible for the next candidate status
failure.
Referring to Serbia’s case, which expects to receive this status soon, Rama underlined that it brings to light Albania’s backwardness.
“What should never happen is happening right now. Albania not only is being left behind by Serbia, but it is also remaining outside, failing, as never before in the history of post-communist countries”, Rama declared.
He added that the Albanian Prime Minister is trying to cover his third consequent failure by blaming the opposition, which, according to Rama, has fulfilled all its duties.
“The opposition has fulfilled all its duties, while the government has fulfilled none of them. For the status, it is not sufficient only to pass the laws in Parliament or to elect the Ombudsman. The smoke and mirrors method for blaming the opposition might affect some of the Albanians, but it cannot prevent the European Council from seeing how the things stand, and all the European Council can do is rejecting Albania’s candidacy, when the government doesn’t accomplish its goals”, Rama underlined.
According to him, the Socialist Party received maximal evaluation from the meeting with the three Ambassadors in Tirana (the EU, US and OSCE ambassadors) for the commitment in the electoral and parliamentary reform, but this remains insufficient.
The opposition leader accused the Prime Minister of not wanting a new electoral system that will create opportunities even to small parties, but he prefers the vote stealing and corruption mechanisms.
“The Prime Minister doesn’t prefer a new electoral system, on which the small parties will be based, but he prefers the current administration system, in order to grow the bad vote stealing seed. The Prime Minister is ready to chose the status quo”, Rama underlined.
Before Rama’s speech, the Chairman of the Integration Commission, Ditmir Bushati, reformulated the same accusations made by his party’s leader against the majority.
“SP has no wish list for the electoral reform. The orientation point is the OSCE-ODIHR. The stance of the majority contradicts the European Council recommendations”, Bushati declared.
The Socialist leader then listed a series of problems that according to him were identified in the fulfillment of the Brussels’ recommendations about the candidate status.
“The rule of law reforms are concerning, with a lack of addressing to the EU suggestions. There are concerns regarding corruption and impunity. The laws are not implemented. It remains also very concerning the property right, since no measures have been taken for the solution of this process”, Bushati declared.
