Less than one week from the decreeing of Gent Sejko for Governor of the
Bank of Albania, the process for his appointment has entered in a
stalemate. Although negotiations have not stopped, a solution seems
quite improbable.
For the sixth time in the past two months, Prime Minister Edi Rama arrived at the Presidency for a meeting with President Bujar Nishani. Rama discussed with Nishani for more than 40 minutes, but none of these institutions have given details.
The stance of the Prime Minister seems unclear, who keeps staying loyal to the idea for a governor from outside Albania.
The majority is hesitant to give a final stance for the candiacy of Banker Sejko, but the only development since the decree is related to the propositionof the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Economy, who asked the Commission of Laws to review the legality of the decree.
In the same time, some Socialist members have publicly expressed their disagreement with Nishani’s candidacy, such as Pandeli Majko, Ervin Bushati and others.
The Socialist Movement for Integration, the ruling partner of Edi Rama, was more careful in these declarations regarding this issue, by focusing more on the importance of the process than on the persons who will be appointed.
While Rama continues his meeting with Nishani, the US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, started this Thursday with a meeting with Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta.
