Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The opposition leader, Edi Rama, travelled to Durres to see how the
family of a fallen police officer lives. He met the relatives of martyr
Bashkim Gjoni, killed at 27 years of age.
His mother Hava told how she was asked by state employees if she had another pension, assets or a house, when she demanded financial support.
She told the opposition leader that she lives with a pension of only 12.000 ALL and, and another 5000 ALL she receives for the martyr status of her son.
His brother tells about the problems he faced to secure support for his mother. The SP leader declared that attacks against police uniforms have reached frightening levels.
“We are determined to review pensions for relatives of fallen police officers. We will find a solution for securing the life of every individual who serves to the state, starting from the simplest police duties and to the highest superiors. We are determined to give maximal dignity and authority to police”, Rama declared.
According to him, a society that has no authority and dignity for teachers, doctors and policemen is abandoned.
“It is intolerable that families of killed policemen have no support today. No respect is shown for those who gave their life to honour the noblest duty, protecting the order of every citizen and community. It’s unacceptable”, Rama underlined.
According to the SP leader, crime is in advantage with a betrayed and abandoned police.
