The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, during a conference in Marocco by the side of his Serbian counterpart, Ana Brnabiq, declared that Serbia will take a big step that will free them from burdens of the past.

“Kosovo is a republic today. There is an independent state with its institutions, and I am happy to say that they have an admirable respect for minorities, especially for the Serbian minority, which has its representation in Parliament. By recognizing Kosovo, Serbia will take a big step and will be freed by a huge burden of the past, which is an obstacle for the future”, he said.

In Marocco, at the Global Conference of World Policies, at the panel titled “Future of Southeastern Europe”, Rama spoke about good neighboring in the EU integration path.

“We are facing a different historic moment, compared to the initial enlargement phase, which was faster. Now we are facing the need to complete the process that has already started. It is not only about enlargement, but also for the completion of the process. Above everything, it is about the strategic need that Europe has to not leave Balkan as a grey area, where other actors could promote their agendas, which could encourage other conflicts”, Rama said.

Todays’ Balkan, according to Rama, has a very clear pro-EU position and it actually working hard for this perspective.

“What we are doing today in the region is not because we are different from our predecessors, who made wars. It is happening because there is a strong pro-European sentiment in the region. This region is the right place to understand how attractive is Europe to people who know what is war”, Rama said.
