On the second part of the interview that Prime Minister Rama gave for
Deutsche Welle, journalist Tim Sebastian is focused on his relations
with the main partner in the government, Ilir Meta.
Sebastian reminded Rama that in 2011 he considered him as the model of everything rotten that takes place in Albania. But Rama confirmed that he was referring to the system, not the person.
Tim Sebastian: You formed a coalition with a person that in 2011 you called “model of everything rotten in Albania?”
Edi Rama: Yes, I have said that.
Tim Sebastian: You were so desperate for power that you went politically in bed with a person you clearly despised? Why?
Edi Rama: I strongly believe it is not the people, but the system.
Tim Sebastian: You didn’t attack the system, but the person.
Edi Rama: I believe it is not the the person, but the system. And I was not desperate for power. I was desperate to see Albania progress and do everything I could to see this happening and I am happy to see it now.
Tim Sebastian: You have not changed your mind about how rotten this man is?
Edi Rama: Again, it has nothing to do with the person…
Tim Sebastian: You said it for him. You made it sopund ?
Edi Rama: I said it in 2011.
Tim Sebastian: Yes, yes.
Edi Rama: We have a coalition that is working well and we are doing good together.
Tim Sebastian: How many rotten people has your coalition?
Edi Rama: We don’t have rotten people.
Tim Sebastian: Besides this person that you accused as rotten in 2011!
Edi Rama: I don’t deny that I said it, but politics functions through elections, numbers and programs of a joint agenda. As long that these are at place, things can progress.
