One day after the President of the European Commission visited Tirana, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, didn’t hesitate to criticize the Commission, during his visit at the EBRD headquarters in London.
Rama said that Albania needs to have a date since its reforms are very impressive.
“Serbia and Montenegro are progressing with the negotiations. I think it is time for Albania and Macedonia to start their negotiations as well. I don’t understand the hesitation of some countries for this because we are not demanding to become a member today or even tomorrow. We want to start the negotiations so that we can be on the same track with other countries. When it is about money, the EU is stingy. As for cooperation and for encouraging countries to start negotiations, the EU should be more generou8s, because Albania and Macedonia have done more than just homework. My appeal for the friends at the Commission and EU would be that it’s OK if you have no money for us, but be more generous (with votes) because that doesn’t cost anything, it will only make Europe safer”, Rama declared.
