Rama: Close to finding consensus

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, increased the hopes for finding a
consensus with the majority and for resolving the presidential stalemate
in a consensual way. According to Rama, the opportunities are there, if
they can agree on the modalities.

“We are so close to finding a consensus, that it would be unimaginable one month ago or during all these years. We are ready to give consensus and we demand consensus. It is true that we asked a framework of modalities and not return this into a farse, where the opposition brings names that are rejected by the majority”, Rama declared.

This was the declaration of the Socialist Party, after the third presidential voting was over.

The EU candidate status was the word that was mentioned several times by Edi Rama on a live interview for Top Channel’s “Top Story”.

As regards Fatos Nano, Rama declared that he offered himself as a candidate above the parties, after a long period away from the Socialist party, for showing with concrete acts that he doesn’t have the relation that he used to have with this party.

“We haven’t prejudged his name for the consensus, not for giving a unilateral candidacy. There’s no reason why the SP should decide for anyone, because we are looking for consensus, and if that would happen, he would not be a candidate from us. This is simple”, Rama declared.

Rama reiterated the difficulty of the EU member countries to give Albania the EU candidate status, if they will fail with the consensus for the third time.

“I will enter the race and I am sure that by winning, I will receive the mandate for governing this country as Prime Minister, starting from the next June. I am very concerned by the possibility that I will have to govern together with the others, but as a Prime Minister without the EU candidate status, a Europe that has its own problems and will keep seeing down to Albania. But I promise that this will not happen in the next year”, Rama declared.
