On this next meeting for gathering ideas from the interest group, in the
framework of the “For a National Rebirth” program, the Socialist Party
focused on agriculture.

Agron Duka, the Chairman of the Working Group for the rural development declared that SP had cooperated with a group of experts in creating a long term plan for recovering agriculture, after identifying the problems. For better illustrating the current situation in agriculture, they showed a documentary on the rural development.

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, spoke about the possible transformation of the Albanian countryside.

“No matter how the agricultural development of the rural areas in Albania is valued, the transformation of the agricultural sector into a production sector for survival, and into a stable, modern and competitive sector, is the key of everything, because the competitiveness is the basic aspect of the rural development”, Rama declared.

Rama addec that there are examples of success, such as the Zare commune in Saranda, adding that the success in employment is not just a utopia, but something realizable.

“They are told that 300.000 new jobs within a mandate in Albania are a utopia and a deceit, but we say them that this is more than possible, considering in mind the extraordinary space of possibilities that there are in the rural space of Albania, where today, unfortunately, we have a general ruin and unemployment with extraordinary damages for the present and the future”, Rama declared.

Mr. Rama reminded the promise made by Berisha for selling petroleum to farmers with 40 ALL per liter, while its price has gone to 1800 ALL. The Socialist underlined the need of having a Ministry of Rural Development.
