Rama: Berisha, kamikaze of CEC

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, expressed his gratitude to the US and EU representatives for their stance in what Rama considered a clearly firm position against the Prime Minister’s efforts to take the Central Election Commission under control.

“In these eight years of repetitive constitutional violations by the Prime Ministers, the declarations of the big partners of Albania have never been so direct. The Constitutional violation has never been so open, such as this brutal initiative to forcibly replace a CEC member. The outgoing Prime Minister is waiting for a long loneness, in which he will remain without a serious ally, alone as in 1997, facing a popular fury that will give an end to his rein with the vote for a National Revival on June 23rd”, Rama declared.

Rama compared Berisha’s action with the kamikaze attacks, asking him to give up from this illegal act.

“The Prime Minister’s effort to turn his paper majority into a kamikaze that will blow the Central Election Commission to pieces destroys once again one basic right that the Albanians have not been able to realize in these years. The direct declarations of the US and EU are strong appeals to stop a violent craziness. We join these appeals and ask the Prime Minister to not give an unnecessary burden to the Albanian people, which is the cost of not having free and honest elections”, Rama declared.

“We will respect the basic document of the elections, and will tolerate no unilateral violations of the Code. We will not become part of any agreement that overlooks the Electoral Code in order to resolve a problem that has been created with the passage of SMI at the opposition”, he added.

Rama invited the Albanian Prime Minister to become the contributor of a peaceful rotation through free and honest elections.
