Rama: Berisha hiding integration failure

14/11/2012 00:00

After the majority refused the opposition’s invitation to sit and
dialogue for the Fier Council stalemate and the three remaining
qualified majority laws, from which depends the EU candidate status for
Albania, the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, declared on a press release
that this is a brutal and blind refusal.

“The reaction of the Democratic Party and the Prime Minister was brutal and blind, as always. No good will was shown to overcome the stalemate about the Fier Council, which they have captured through violence and by violating the Constitution and the law. In his desperate effort to justify the failure with the EU integration, today’s government that came to power with stolen votes, is trying to blame the opposition for blocking the integration”, Rama declared.

The Socialist leader explained with details about what happened in the Fier District, underlining once again that the first meeting of the Fier District has elected a Socialist Head, and the councillors elected in that meeting are the only ones who are legal.

“All socialist councillors whose mandate was removed, addressed the issue to the court and all verdicts say that the mandate of the councillor is four years long, and cannot be removed by communal or municipal councils after the first meeting is held”, Rama declared.

By explaining the chronology of the Fier District Saga, the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, declared that 15 councillors have been illegally changed through physical and psychological violence, through biased fines and pressure on their families, threatening to fire their relatives who work in the state administration.

“For the Socialist Party, we are not discussing if the Fier District will be led by one party or another, but what is really in stake is the implementation of the Albanian Constitution, the functionality of the Constitutional principles, the functionality of the rule of law, the functionality and respect of the courts and their verdicts, in function of the free will of 300.000 voters in Fier”, Rama declared.

Rama added that the SP cannot vote in Parliament and admit that the Albanian laws will simply remain in papers, even for issues that directly affect the interest of 300.000 Albanians and that damage the core of the rule of law.

“If Albania will not receive the EU candidate status in December, there is only one responsible for this, and that is the Albanian government, which has no courage to at least sit and discuss with the opposition while we are on the last days before the decision for the EU candidate status. The government is withholding the Fier District and their eyes are set towards the elections, not the EU”, Rama declared.
