Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Edi Rama and Ilir Meta shook hands in Brussels with the EU Commissioner
for Enlargement, Stefan Fule. They participated in the meeting of the
left parties’ leaders of Balkan, held for the Socialist Congress in
Europe.
Ilir Meta, SMI leader: Most of the 12 priorities have been realized, although there are many important issues that are still unsolved, such as the Supreme Court law, the approval of the Parliamentary Procedure Regulation. I hope that in the days to come these issues will be resolved and the Commission will be able to make a positive proposal for Albania.
Top Channel: Was there any concrete declaration from the Commission about this issue?
Ilir Meta: The Commissioner declared that the enlargement policies are held in a more difficult terrain than in the past, due to the new challenges that Europe is facing, but he was very encouraging for the enlargement, based on the individual merits of each country.
Edi Rama, SP leader: We are aware, as well as the Commission is aware, since they have written it black on white, that the problem of Albania are not the laws, but the failure to implementation these laws. And in order to have integrity that should reflect the life quality of the Albanian citizens, in Albania’s democratic system, and institutions that serve to the Albanians, it is obligatory for the Commission, the EU and the European Socialist Party to be vigilant and not allow the entire progress and contribution of the opposition to get abused and turn into a process that has no impact in the citizens’ life.
Top Channel: On this meeting, the SMI leader was also present. Was there a special meeting between you, and how do you define the relations with him?
Edi Rama: No, no special meeting. We are in opposition, SMI is in government.
Ilir Meta: I am here to meet all Socialist and Social-Democrat leaders of Balkan and Europe, and it is also normal to meet the leader of the Albanian SP.
