The opposition insists in the Parliamentary surveillance of the Ministry
of Defense, accusing Minister Arben Imami for spying on the opposition
and the diplomatic body through equipments that have cost millions of
Euros, by infringing this way the democracy in Albania.
“The opposition has been spied on and is being spied on through these illegal equipments. This is an attempt against the Constitution. This cannot be even imagined in the democratic world. In Albania this is forbidden by law, but they have committed this crime each day, by spying even diplomatic bodies from the NATO allies, through a spying unit from the Ministry of Defense. This state has nothing in common with the rule of law”, Edi Rama declared.
By comparing this with the Watergate Scandal, which made the US President Nixon resign 30 years ago, for spying the opposition, he asked the Albanian government to take the responsibility for this scandal.
Inspection documents
Opposition MPs at the Security Commission declare that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense lie when they say that there is no procedure for the Security Commission to inspect this Ministry.
During an interview for Top Channel, Pirro Lutaj declared that the Minister of Defense was present in the Commission on May 18th 2012, when the list of inspection groups was approved, and when two other documents were received from the General Parliamentary Secretary. These documents were about the approval of the Parliamentary surveillance on the Ministry.
“In fact, the Albanian Parliament, with document 1608 of 12 June 2012, asks the Minister of Defense to allow the Security Commission’s members to inspect the Ministry of Defense and implement the Commission’s decision. On 25 June 2012, the Albanian Parliament addressed a document to the Minister of Defense by saying: “Mr. Minister, as we have informed you, the National Security Commission has approved the hearing session plan and the plan for the Parliamentary surveillance at the Ministry of Defense”, Lutaj declared.
Lutaj finds the legitimacy of this Parliamentary surveillance at article 75 of the Constitution and article 102.2 of the Parliamentary Regulation. But for the Socialists, the refusal of this request and the delays leave shadows of manipulation.
“The public opinion and we personally have the right to change everything possible that this majority can do. What we want is the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister to give up this craziness”, the Socialist MP declared.
The Socialist MP, Erjon Brace, declared that the refusal of the Ministry of Defense is a crime that should be inspected by the Prosecution. Brace declared that the SP has documents that prove the anti-constitutional acts of Minister Arben Imami.
