Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The massive rains of the recent days increased hopes that the electric power situation will improve.
The latest data from KESH show that the water at the Fierza Basen has gone from 70 cm3 to 650 cm3, and is actually at the 260 meters quota. But even with this slight improvement, Albania is still facing the energy crisis.
The water reserves in Fierza are 20-30 meters under the historical average in this period, and remains in an emergency crsisis. The hydro power plant has been closed for days and does not produce energy. These measures were taken by the Albanian Power Corporation in order to save the water reserves, which was almost at the final point before the rains started.
The energy needs are now faced mainly from import. Since September, KESH declared that they are importing 11 million KW hours each day, with a bill that goes from 700.000 to 750.000 EUR. The financial situation of the KESH is poor, since the company is covering all the demand on its own. The money is enough to guarantee the energy by the end of November, and if the water situation will not be improved, the government will be obliged tp omcrease tje dent. while the next year is expected to be even worse.
