Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Dozens of citizens and activists from the civil society protested in
front of the Presidency for the shocking case of the sexual abuse and
murder of a 11-year-old. The participants protested against what they
called a justice system that doesn’t guarantee the basic rights of its
citizens.
The General Directory of Justice Matters started an inspection over the trial held in 2008, in which he was accused for kidnapping a child, and not sexual abuse. This is because he didn’t try to commit any violent act against the child.
Since the child had left his house in 10 minutes, the Prosecution asked a fine against the offender. The Ministry of Justice has to explain the case.
Prrenjasi had blamed the influence of alcohol, which is what saved him from prison. But the Ministry is inspecting if the decision was rushed.
The process went on for seven sessions, six of which were postponed, while Prrenjasi had asked an accelerated trial. The judge is also the one who has given the highest sentence for a child abuser, 20 years against the British Robin Arnold.
Even in other cases of child abuse, the sentence has been harsh. But it remains unexplained how Prrenjasi had no records until 2008.
His family declared that they had evicted him from home and even warned the police that he was dangerous. However, Prrenjasi had no police records.
His first trial is on 2008, but had nothing to do with sexual abuse against minors.
Another sexual abuse in Tirana
After the raised awareness, a Tirana family has reported the sexual abuse of a 40-year-old against their 16-year-old daughter.
Police arrested Avni Bajraktari, resident of Qesaraka, Dajt, charged for obscene acts in public.
The family has phoned the police and asked an investigation.
