Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Puka Hospital entrance has been blocked by the snow for several
days. This place shows that the irresponsibility of the local
administration and the residents themselves can cross every limit.
In a time of emergencies, keeping the Hospital door blocked and waiting the Tirana Army Forces to open it, this could happen only in Puke. No one has touched a single shovel, not the local administration that has taken the money for it, and not even the citizens themselves.
The town of Puka is covered by snow. The residents complain about the management of the situation and the food supply. However, no one has answered to the government’s appeal for cleaning the roofs.
The local administration almost doesn’t exist in Puka. The Municipality has not cleaned even its own door, let alone going 15 meters further, where the Hospital is.
The snow has almost covered all buildings, with only a narrow canal opened among the snow, at their entrance. Others consider their working day off, since they expect the state to do something, and others demand solidarity to help a Municipality that doesn’t exist.
“I am a pensioner from Puka. We have been blocked. The aids have arrived, but they are being sold. No one cares about us”, the senior citizen lady says.
Another pensioner expresses his concern for the situation created in Puka. According to him, the local government has no organization for the town.
The residents of the Luf Commune know that the aids have arrived, but they don’t know when they will be distributed. They are waiting for a sack of flour.
It seems that laziness is very common among the Puka local leaders. The Shkoder-Puka segment, where the Shkoder district ends, there is a snow cleaner that work all the time. In the Puka border, snow falls on another snow.
A few people have answered to the government appeals for solidarity. Although the municipalities have received enough funds for the emergency, it seems that the Sun is the only one that has won the tender to open the roads, the hospital entrance together with that of the Municipality.
Businesses in Koplik file for bankruptcy
Although the snow has stopped in the last three days in Malesi e Madhe, the consequences are big. Some residences have their roofs destroyed, and some businesses have completely failed.
One 1 million USD investment green house has been destroyed by the snow. Its administrator has filed for bankruptcy. Other businesses have been damaged by the destruction of their roofs.
Even the public institutions have not been excluded by the damages. The former new gym at the town’s school has been destroyed, and luckily there were no one was damaged.
