A few hours before Rama’s decision about the disposal of the Syrian
chemical weapons in Albania, protests have spread throughout the
country.
But the biggest and most significant protest is being held in Tirana’s main boulevard. Students from the Tirana University have been staying there from today morning, and also citizens coming from other districts and Kosovo.
Some of the high-school students say that they have been threatened by school directors to not become part of this protest.
The protesters were organized through Social Networks, and will stay in this square until the government leader, Edi Rama, will give the final decision on this issue.
Protests throughout the country
There are other protests in Shkoder, Lezhe, Gjirokaster and Korce, where people are against the chemical weapons in Albania.
“We don’t want chemical weapons. Korca is against the chemical weapons. We have a clear message for all government leaders. They should justify the votes that they have taken. We are against chemical weapons”, protesters say.
The Socialist Parliament Member, Ben Blushi, spoked at the Elbasan Protest.
“Albania has shown to be responsible on this case and there is a civil reaction, which obliges us to think more than for this moment. I have expressed my opinion, and I will repeat it due to this civil reaction, because they needed more transparency and a different administration. I believe that this is the time for the government to withdraw from negotiations. Even because the lack of transparency, most of the Albanians seem to be against, and when the Albanian people is against, the government cannot be in favor”, Blushi declared.
Durres port blocked
A large group of people, high schools students and other citizens in Durres blocked the two passages for the Durres Port.
Encouraged by the idea that the Syrian weapons would come from there, they promised to block the passage and the port’s normal work. The company that takes care of the port safety intervened and stopped them from entering the port.
