Protest in front of the Albanian Parliament against the new budget ends prematurely

The protest organized by the opposition DP in front of the Parliament this evening ended after 1 and a half hours.

The rally was announced to last as long as the plenary session for the approval of the budget, but was closed earlier for unknown reasons.

Activists spoke out against the approval of the draft budget, as well as citizens who spoke their objections on the draft on the podium set up in front of the Parliament.

Numerous police forces were present gathered in front of the Parliament for the protest to avoid possible escalations.

Citizens started the protest with a minute of silence for the death of Martin Can, the 14-year-old who was stabbed to death yesterday by a peer in the capital.

Meanwhile, inside the hall, the socialist majority approved the 2025 budget with 75 votes after 23 hours of debate with the opposition.

40 opposition MPs voted against, none abstained, while raising red cards during the process

The marathon plenary session of two days has been accompanied by clashes between opposition and majority MPs.

The stabbing to death of 14-year-old Martin Cani after a fight with a peer the day before in Tirana, was also became part of the discussions and clashes.
