Dozens of students and academic staff of the Faculty of Economics boycotted the autumn exams in protest against the occupation of territories by buildings around the university.
They denounced the continuation of abusive building in front of the faculty building, where is the establishment of the university campus and called for the implementation of the court decision to annul the construction permit for another building in the courtyard of the faculty.
“I call the Building Inspector to enforce the law only and not become an advocate of illegal construction in the territory of the university, not only for this building, but also for other buildings in the territory of the University campus. I urge the Mayor to enforce the law and keep the promises given in the Faculty graduation ceremony,” said Fatmir Mema, a Deputy of the Faculty of Economics.
After the protest, responded the representatives of the firm that is building in the courtyard of the Faculty who claim that the continuation of the work is in accordance with law.
“There is no court final decision. Even if there is such a final decision, there doesn’t exist one that removes the interim suspension of work,” says Pavlin Kalusha, representative of the construction firm.
Construction of buildings near the university premises is an issue of concern raised several times by students and academic staff of the University of Tirana who have stated the need for more space available to students.
