Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Dozens of people protested in front of the Albanian Parliament in Tirana
against the violence suffered by the Albanians in Skopje by Macedonian
hooligans.
“We don’t recognize Macedonia, so we have no reason to protest in front of their embassy in Tirana. We have gathered to support our brothers. Albanian children in Albanian are being violently attacked just because of their religious affiliation”, declared Gentian Rrugija, representative of the Red and Black Sport Fans.
With slogans “What if they were your children” and photos of the victims, the Red and Black Fans asked the Albanian state to react in defence of the ethnic Albanians in Macedonia.
“We appeal politics to see them as their children, because they are actually their children for as long that they are Albanians, and not go only based on the declarations, because it is too late if it goes out of control”, Rrugija.
The violence against the Albanians in Skopje, where not even young children were not spared, came after Talat Xhaferri was appointed Defence Minister of the Macedonian Parliament. Macedonian extremists protested against this appointment, since according to them Talat Xhaferri was a commander in of the National Liberation Army. After the protest, a group of 200 Macedonians attacked the ethnic Albanians, while two of them were hospitalized.
