Due to the national mourning, which coincides with the International Day
of Persons with Disabilities, the representing association planned a
resolution addressed to the highest state institutions and foreign
missions in the country, regarding the failure to respect their rights
and freedoms.
The resolution says that their freedom standards are deteriorating each day and job opportunities are fading away.
Sinan Tafaj, President of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities declared that the National Council is open to cooperate with all organizations of this category. The core of this cooperation should be only for protecting the interests of the persons with disabilities.
Tafaj emphasized that the Civil Code guarantees to these persons the ability to act, and it should be implemented by the respective institutions, as well as encouraging the ratification of the Convent of Persons with Disabilities.
The law provides that every state institution should employ at three persons with disabilities, which has not been respected.
Present in this conference was also the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, who appealed for respecting the rights and freedoms of this category.
“Despite the improvements of the legal dispositions for integrating the persons with disabilities, there is still much to do in the economy. It is important for the countries to fight against discrimination of people with disabilities, in all social sectors”, Arvizu declared.
