Dinko Cvitan has arrived in Albania during a big campaign for the
decriminalization of politics. He is the Prosecutor General of Croatia, a
country that became part of the EU recently, also thanks to this
person.
Cvitan started his career as a lawyer and today is the Prosecutor General of Croatia, but what made him noted is the fact that from 2005 to 2014 he was Chief of the Bureau Against Corruption and Organized Crime, an office that brought the arrest of the former Prime Minister of Croatia, Io Sanader.
The Court of Zagreb sentenced him to 10 years in prison, but this was not his only sentence. A few days ago he received another 9 year sentence for taking more than 9 million EUR from public funds for their marketing agency “Fimi Media”.
He will have more than 2 million EUR of assets seized, and his party will pay 3 million EUR. This movement led by Cvitan opened the doors to Croatia’s EU accession.
But Cvitan didn’t stop with that. He signed the arrest of the Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandic, also accused of corruption. With a story similar to Falcone or Borselino in Italy, Cvitan is one of the people who has merit for the accession of Croatia in the EU.
