While three high-level officials challenged the suspension decision and
security measure at the Court of Appeal, the Prosecution of Tirana sent a
letter to the Italian Ministry of Justice with the request to be
informed about the surveillance equipment “IMSI Catcher”.

Sources at the Prosecution said for Top Channel that Prosecutor Anisa Qilimi requested the Italian Ministry of Justice detailed information about the training program of both police officers.

“Who were the Italian officers charged with this task and is the IMSI Catcher currently owned by the Italian authorities?”.

The Prosecution’s request comes in a time when the “Interforce” mission, interrogated through the embassy, has not answer about the whereabouts of this equipment. There are suspicions it has entered Albania illegally and could have been used for illegal surveillance.

The Prosecution says that they have information that the equipment has entered a Tirana prison without the permission of the Prosecution, to spy some prisoners with dangerous criminal records.

Sources say that they may have used the equipment to listen to the phone conversations of Vladimir Gjuta, a person for whom the Serious Crimes suspended the investigation.
