Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Prosecution asked again life to prison for Lavderim Tufa, accused for the murder of Fatmir Rama.
The Prosecution did not change its request, even after reassessing the file for the murder of Rama, known as Miri i Xhikes.
The Supreme Court had returned Tufa’s case for a review, due to procedural infringements.
Tufa’s father: you know who the murderers are
Before the Tirana Prosecution presented the pretence for its main accused, Lavderim Tufa, charged of triple murder (among them Miri i Xhikes, notorious Albanian mobster), the father of Tufa, Xhevdet Tufa, launched accusations towards the investigation of the case.
“Although many years have passed, we continue our efforts in courts. Other people are cooperating with the prosecution, people who also have possible ties with the state. The state knows very well who the murderer is, but they don’t want to go there”, Tufa’s father said.
Tufa’s case will be remembered for the great number of DNA tests made by foreign experts from Italy and Britain. For the new DNA test, the prosecutor asked other foreign experts again, arguing that the Albanian experts are not qualified, but this request was rejected by the court.
The Albanian experts declared that Tufa’s DNA was 90% consistent, but they argued that in EU countries, the consistency must be 99.97% or higher for incriminating a person, while the FBI has set a limit of 99.9%.
DNA is the only evidence that the prosecution has against Tufa, the only defendant for the case, although the witnesses have testified for three killers.
In these eight years of trials, Lavderim Tufa has always claimed innocence, although he has been sentenced three times to life in prison, before it was rejected by the Supreme Court.
