The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, met this Tuesday with the
Lushnje farmer, to whom he promised constant support for the next four
years.

Berisha underlined the free subventions that the government has paid to farmers, and its plans to bring other facilities to the sector.

“Agriculture is the only sector in which we are giving free subventions. Since 2007 and up to today we have paid subventions to 42.000 farmers throughout Albania. We have included in these schemes 26 agriculture sectors”, Berisha declared.

“We have given a new legal package that will bring any customs fee for everything that you need in the agricultural production”, the Prime Minister declared.

He also focused on the growing buying power for Albanian goods, which, according to the Minister, is affected by the increased number of tourists.

“On the other hand, one of the most positive developments is the fact that Albania welcomes more than 4 million tourists each year, which has doubled the buying power of foreign products. In the next four years we will double grants for farmers”, Berisha declared.

Berisha promised further investments in agricultural infrastructure. “We hope to triple subventions and pave thousands of kilometres for rural Albania. We will also build a modern irrigation system”, Berisha declared.
