The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, invited Italian businessmen to
invest in energy, by mentioning several projects, one of them that of
Skavica.
We are working in several other projects, like the Skavica Project, where we are thinking to come out with a new partnership between public and private companies, where the Albanian Power Corporation covers part of the investment due to the fact that this project is expanded in that strategic cascade and serves as a regulator of the cascade. On the other hand, it gives good opportunities for the private investors of this giant project”, Gjiknuri declared.
To increase the guarantee of businessmen in the energy sector, the government is investing in power lines such as inter-connection with Kosovo, which will be complete after two years, or other lines with Macedonia. Minister Gjiknuri declared that in parallel with this, they are working for a power-line with Italy.
“There is an old project that has remained on paper, unfortunately, and that was connecting Albania with Italy. Many foreign investors would want this. We have intensified our efforts with the Italian authorities. It is not a simple project, but it is clear and it will be one of the biggest achievements if Albania would have a direct power-line with the European Union. This means bigger opportunities for the Italian investors, and also for exchanging energy with the European Union”, Gjiknuri declared.
The Head of the Group of Parliament Members for attracting Italian investments in Albania, Artan Gaci, presented some concrete projects in sectors such as infrastructure, mechanical and processing industry.
“Italian investors would be welcomed wherever in the region, but Albania has something special. People here speak your language. Albanians have grown with Italy and when you say ‘west’ in Albania you mean Italy. Everywhere else you’d be seen like foreign investors. Here you are at home”, Gaci declared.
