Problems with Nation’s Road

The Nation’s Road, the new highway that connects Albania with Kosovo,
proved very difficult for the cleaning teams, due to the constant
snowfalls.

The part of the road that crosses through Mirdita is now open, and the road has no more constant snow or ice. This was noted by the truck drivers, who often get blocked by the ice.

The Rrepsi residents also say that the road is open.

“It has been cleaned everyday, although the snow was constant. There have been no problems. Everyone has been able to find provisions”, a Rrepsi resident declared.

Only one lane can be used near the Kalimash area, due to the snow, which hasn’t been cleared in the entire part of the road. The villages near Fan Commune have many problems.

“There is no road that leads to the center of our village. We are a family of three people. I have only 50 heads of livestock and few food reserves, for myself and the animals. Winter is always present in this area, but this has been the most difficult, since 1985”, says Ndue Preng Marku, from Konaj Village.

The head of the Fan Commune shows the map of the blocked areas.

“We are continuing to open the roads, and we have been able to connect with the villages of Shen Gjergj and Petojc. But Konaj, Katund i Vjeter and some other villages are still closed”, declared Gjergj Prenga.

The problems get bigger the more you approach Kukes. The present equipments do not guarantee optimal traffic circulation, and heavy vehicles are blocked in steep parts of the road.
