One day after Top Channel published the images of the government
residence in Vlore, just furnished from the state budget, the Prime
Ministry has reacted.
In a press release the Director of the Government Services, an agency of the Prime Ministry says that “Top Channel broadcasted a footage regarding a government residence in Vlore, in which they depicted it through slander as a residence of Prime Minister Berisha”.
“Regarding this news report, the Spokesperson for the Government Services Directory explained the public opinion that the residence depicted by Top Channel as a government residence is in fact a residence for high rank personalities and friends of Albania, during their visits in our country.”
The government says that Top Channel’s claims that the government residence in Vlore belongs to the Prime Minister is a low slander that opposes the goals of a media.
According to the Prime Minister’s press release, this is a repeated case. They reminded the video of the former Deputy Prime Minister, Ilir Meta, in which he appeared with the former Minister of Energy, Dritan Prifti, and also the news about the 700.000 EUR Mercedes Benz bought for the transportation of the foreign high rank diplomats, such as foreign Presidents, Prime Ministers and Parliament Speakers who visit Albania. The press release explains that this car has never been used by the Prime Minister or other personalities of the country.
Besides the reaction, the Prime Minister’s press release does not deny the cost of its furniture, for which Top Channel referred to the official institutions that depend from the government. But they say that it is not a residence for the Prime Minister.
Top Channel underlined that the villa in Vlore is a government residence and not of Prime Minister Berisha, but as every other government residence, it can be used by Prime Minister Berisha, the high rank officials and foreign personalities, as admitted in the annunciation.
However, the focus of the news on Top Channel was not Prime Minister Berisha, but the 50 million ALL expenses for the furnishing of a government residence in a time when the state budget has recognized cut expenses in all priority sectors.
