“A wrong choice means Albania’s delay for joining the European family.

Top Channel: On May 30th, the Parliament will start the first voting procedure for electing the new President. Which is your view about the process that has been held so far?

Danish Ambassador: So far, the Process has been on the media and different talk shows. I think that the most important thing is the person. The person who will be elected by the Albanian politicians is very important. Albania is facing an opportunity for bringing two messages. The first is either they are stuck in the past, or they are jumping to the future. I see this as very important. The person will be the face and image of Albania for the next five years, which are decisive for Albania’s future towards the integration processes. This person will be the image of the honest and hard working Albanians that we want to see as part of Europe. He will be the face and image of what could go wrong with the Albanian politics, which we don’t want to import to Europe, hence it is an important election from the politicians, because either it will bless and satisfy Albania, or it will stand as a bad shadow for the next five years. For this reason I repeat that it is a decisive election. The wrong choice will not help Albania with the European Integration. The integration will happen, sooner or later. It is a matter of time, but if you choose a president that will turn into an obstacle for teh integration, this process will take more time, considering how important this year is, when you are celebrating the 100th year of independence. The presidential election has something very significant and I hope that Albanian politicians will allow Albania to receive the candidate status.
