
The summit between the Presidents of Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and
Kosovo, which is being held in Ochrid, Macedonia, started with
bilateral meetings.
The Albanian President, Bamir Topi held the first meeting with the Kosovo President, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga. The Albanian Presidency press office announced that President Topi appriciated the diplomatic actions of President Jahjaga for increasing the role of Kosovo in the international arena, in order to achieve new independence recognition. President Topi also attended a meeting with the host of this regional summit, the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Djordje Ivanov.
According to the press release of the Albanian Presidency, President Topi made a short summary of the political situation in Albania after the local elections. The President expressed his optimism that in the new Parliamentary session that will start this autumn, Albania will start a new phase of political dialogue, which includes changes in the election code and new laws that are very important for the EU integration.
The Ochrid Summit is the third of this kind, after the one held in Vlore in June 2009 and Prizren in June 2010.
