Tuesday is a long marathon of negotiations between the allies of the
government coalition. The party leaders met after noon, trying to agree
about the criteria that will be needed for fulfilling an eventual
presidential candidate.

DP and SMI, the main coalition parties, will meet again this afternoon for discussing the possible names.

The SMI leader, Ilir Meta, spoke on behalf of the coalition, after the first meeting of the allies.

“We have not discussed a concrete name from the majority, or as majority propositions, because these will be discussed after the next hours. It is important to confirm the will for finding a consensual president, in order to also have the consensus for the next reforms that are required by the EU integration process. What is concrete now, is the will and readiness to set the criteria for the candidates, the seriousness for a democratic, transparent and legal process, because we need a wide and consensual support. Certainly that we have some names, and we hope that the opposition will be involved in this process, because it is in their interest too; it is in our country’s interests, in the interest of the reforms that have also been asked by the opposition. The opposition should come with its voice and ideas, and by the end it will be the public opinion who will judge the seriousness of the majority and opposition. We wish and hope, because we should not prejudice, that the cooperation will be successful”, Meta declared.
