Genc Tafili, sentenced to 25 years for murdering the Shkoder Chief of Police in 2000, has been released this Tuesday by the Kruja Court, although he had three other years to serve.
Judge Enkelejda Hoxha accepted Tafili’s request for probation, although the Prosecution considered the decision completely illegal, since Tafili’s crime is excluded from the benefits of the probation law.
President Ilir Meta has ordered the High Council of Justice to verify the case.
In 2000, besides Arben Zylyftari, the father of Genc Tafili was also killed. Genc Tafili’s brother, Admir Tafili, was also arrested. Both brothers blamed the Chief of Shkoder Police for their father’s death, Prel Pjetrushi. Admir Tafili carried out an attempt to kill Pjetrushi, but failed, forcing Pjetrushi to leave Albania.
Although serving a prison sentence, in 2010 Admir Tafili received permit to visit his relatives and was able to escape from guardians. After spending six months in the hiding, he killed two brothers of Prel Pjetrushi, Nik and Gjovalin Pjetrushi, and then handed himself over to the police. He escaped once again two years later, but was caught within a few hours.
