President of the Republic, Ilir Meta announced today in a press conference that he has sent a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly, Gramoz Ruçi for a meeting immediately after the final report of the Venice Commission on the Constitutional Court.
According to Meta, it is urgent to establish the Constitutional Court as soon as possible, in a constitutional manner.
“As President of the Republic, as I have always been tireless in seeking cooperation for the constitutional implementation of justice reform, I will continue to be so even after the final report of the Venice Commission and today we forwarded the official letter to the President of the Assembly for holding a meeting as soon as it is possible for him, starting from next Monday.
“This is very important, because the Constitutional Court must be as functional as possible in the interest of Albanians, but also in terms of the integration process, as it is a precondition for the EP. Undoubtedly, the Bundestag and the EC, the EP, the Danish parliament, and others will take the Venice report in its original version.
“I express the President’s determination to always be cooperative with all institutions, as I have always been, so that in Albania the Justice Reform gains the lost speed and the trust of the citizens. This is achieved not through interpretations according to the wishes or interests of each, but only through respect for the Constitution and the law by all. Second, implementing the recommendations of the Venice Commission is the only way forward. The recommendations are clear in Albanian as well “, said Meta among other things.
