Today the Albanian President of the Republic Ilir Meta, handed over the decrees of appointment to the new rectors of public universities, winners of the July 30 elections.
A special ceremony was organized in the Presidency where 12 rectors officially took office. The new rectors will lead public higher education institutions in the country for the next four years.
Among other things Meta said in his speech: “Your election and selection came through a difficult process, especially from the unusual pandemic situation, in which surprises and attempts to adapt to measures were often contested.”
The head of state said that the challenges ahead are difficult but not impossible.
“The challenges and difficulties you face will be many, especially in this pandemic period which requires even more commitment and special strategies.
“But Albania today needs hope more than ever! Good youth education is the great hope of our country. The brain drain and the new and more creative forces of society must be stopped. The departure of youth and the closure of many branches of study at universities across the country is a very big wound! Our young people need to be offered more hope and alternatives to education and work.”
