May 1 is known as International Workers’ Day, born of their efforts to demand and secure rights and freedoms, working and living conditions.
Albanian President Ilir Meta, through a post on social media, writes that the economic situation in the country is grave, and that the COVID-19 pandemic and its long-term effects on the country’s economy are expected to further worsen the negative phenomena.
“Even May 1st of this year, International Workers’ Day, finds Albania with the lowest wage level in the region and in Europe according to international financial institutions”, writes Meta.
He calls for special attention to be paid to workers in the most affected sectors, not only by listening to them, but also to really benefit from the promised economic packages.
