Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future One day before the first Parliamentary voting for the next president,
the international community intensified the efforts for convincing the
parties to find a consensus.
The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, met the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha. For more than 40 minutes, their discussions focused on the presidential election, the electoral and parlaimentary reforms. Ambassador Arvizu expressed his desire for the next president to be elected in the first voting round, through a consensus.
After meeting Berisha, the US, EU ambassadors and the OSCE deputy ambassador visited the Socialist headquarters.
After meeting Edi Rama, the three diplomats underlined that they are not making the negotiator in these meetings, but they want to bring the process forward. Ambassador Arvizu declared that there is no concrete name for the candidate and that the process is more important than the name.
“I have heard no concrete name, but the process is more improtant. We need a process for electing a person that will take all parties in his office”, Arvizu declared.
The EU ambassador, Ettore Sequi, declared that they don’t make negotiations. According to him, there is dialogue between the political forces, and that Albania’s integration depends from this process.
Ambassador Arvizu and his colleagues that are accredited in Tirana will play an important role for calming the relation between the parties, so that they can try and find a consensual president.
