Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Fier thermal power plant, a state property, was officially waiting
for an auction that would sell every part of it as scrap metal.
The money would go to the state budget, but the newly appointed administrators had another idea. Either they are the organizers of the theft that is taking place at this plant for several weeks now, or they are responsible for not preventing it.
A few weeks ago, Top Channel’s investigative program, Fiks Fare, discovered the way how the plant was being robbed for some weeks now, until today.
The Fiks Fare cameras caught the site where a heavy vehicle dug for revealing the big metal tubes of the plant. They worked only on weekends and by nights, under the watch of guards that are paid for securing the building, but that in fact have secured the theft. Then they started destroying the ventilation implants.
During the day they cut tubes and deposits, for gathering the scrap metal. By night, a heavy truck with Elbasan plates entered the plant territory and carried the scrap away. The truck was accompanied by a local administration leader to Zharra, an inert colelction point. Due to the big quantities of scrap metal, on Saturday, when the administration is not working, the truck enters again the plant territory for loading scrap metal at the same site.
The same suspicious affair was discovered some months ago a few hundred meters from the thermal power plant, at the former Nytrogen Plant, in Fier, which now has ceased to exist. Plant 212 underwent a scrap metal sale auction, but it was delayed due to complaints. However, the work for taking the metal scrap never ceased.
After a report made by Top Channel, the Prosecution started an investigation in the thermal power plants of Maliq, Cerrik, Vlore, Tirana and Kucova.
