The Albanian Energy Corporation has started exporting energy. Sources
from the corporation say for Top Channel that the export has started
this Tuesday midnight, and currently KESH is selling 220 mega energy per
hour.
According to KESH, the auction of this Tuesday was concluded with an average price of 38.5 EUR per megawat.
This means that in total, for the next two weeks, KESH has contracted the sale of 2.5 million EUR of electricity. The corporation leaders say that KESH might sell energy again after this quantity is over, but this decision will be taken based on the situation of the water reserves in the cascade.
KESH decided to start exporting energy after a request made by the technical secretary of dams. The massive rains of the recent days have increased the water flow in the cascade. To avoid other floods, the secretariat asked KESh to start producing energy and sell the excess abroad.
The Fierza hydropower plan level is 290 meters, same as required by the secretariat. The current flow is 500 cubic meter per second, and managers say that if it will increase any sooner, the corporation might sell more and not pass the level of 291 meters.
