The surveyors will ask about 78 questions which are expected to provide important demographic data as well as the situation of properties and the economy in the territory.
In the southern city of Gjirokastra, 177 surveyors will be distributed in 7 municipalities to register the resident population and collect through self-declaration data related to the number of inhabitants, ethnicity, language, religion, economy, income, standard of living.
Gjirokastra, even during the last census, due to the specificity related to the high number of immigrants and the multi-ethnic population, became the basis of claims for an unfair process.
The head of the INSTAT statistics institute for Gjirokastra, Mantha Zhapa, said that the population that will be declared as residents will be registered as such, while residents who will declare that they live only for short periods in their homes will not be registered.
The survey process for the census will last until October 30, and the groups of surveyors will appear up to three times in the apartments, leaving notices for the registration.
The population and housing census is of fundamental importance for the region as the number of resident population determines the distribution of grants to small municipalities, tha authorities say.
The process will also register foreigners with residence permits who have lived for more than 12 months in Albania, while the registration in prisons and nursing homes will have a separate protocol.
