Politicians who don’t pay taxes

The General Directory of Road Transportation says that the list
presented in their official site with the names of the people who
haven’t paid the vehicle obligations is not correct, because the
information has not been updated.

According to this institution, the list belongs to April 2011 and it shows debtors who have paid their obligations, or who have sold their cars to other people.

According to the Directory, the new list of debtors will be published during this month.  Balkan Insight published yesterday a scandal where they reported that the President and the Parliament Speaker have unpaid taxes for their personal vehicles. These important figures of the Albanian state were followed by four Ministers, including the Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode, and the Minister of Transportation, Sokol Olldashi, and also many other Parliament members from both parties. Some of them have unpaid taxes for several years.

After the news was published, the Presidential Office reacted by saying that the President has paid all obligations until 2011, but the vehicle was sold to someone else and this has not been reflected at the list of the Transportation Directory.

As for the Parliament Speaker, Mrs. Topalli, sources from the Road Directory say that she has paid the taxes but the list has not been updated. Last year the Parliament passed a law that pardoned unpaid obligations for vehicles, but it excluded all high rank officials. Although their obligation is to pay taxes, this hasn’t happened and has given a bad example to the public.

Olldashi apologises publicly

The Minister of Transports, Sokol Olldashi, apologized to the public for not paying the obligations and declared that it is an unintentional mistake. Olldashi explained that right after the news was published, he paid all the obligations for 2012, different from what the news reported.

The authority that collects taxes for vehicles is the General Directory of Road Transportation Services, which depends from the Minister of Transportations, Sokol Olldashi.
