Policemen killed on duty

Two years ago, Afrim Hasani was found guilty for murder in qualified
circumstances by the Court of Serious Crimes. He killed two police
officers, Shkelzen Dobrushi and Ramadan Hila. After this terrible crime,
the Interior Ministry admitted that they were killed because of their
duty.

“The author of these murders was sued on 17 March 2009 by two police officers over property destruction charges. This is the motive of his crime”, declared the Spokesperson for the Police in 2009.

Highest state officials, the Albanian President, the Prime Minister and the Opposition expressed their condolences to the family on the funeral day. But three years after the crime, while the author is serving a lifetime sentence, no one has declared the police officers as martyrs.

While waiting for the status of their late husbands, the wives Blerina Dobrushi and Elmira Hila addressed the Tirana Court with a request.

“It is strange that the police, the Interior Ministry and all other structures have always agreed to accept the request for declaring Shkelzen Dobrushi and Ramadan Hila as martyrs of the nation, but their request has been rejected. Their wives have sued this commission and have asked the verdict to be cancelled and have their late spouses declared martyrs”, declared lawyer Perparim Rama.

On March 2009, the police officers were shot by Afrim Hasani a few days after he had destroyed the objects of a bar. The owners reported the violence to the two police officers, who tried to stop the 34-year-old while he was driving with another vehicle. The officers had a conflict during this control, and he shot them to death one week later.
