The police officer who shot dead 25-year-old Klodian Rasha on the outskirts of Tirana in the early hours of the morning was arrested today.

Authorities told Top Channel earlier that the officer shot the 25-year-old in excess of the necessary self-protection.

The police officer of the “Shqiponja” units, as the police informed in its notification about the event, called upon the young man to stop, but Rasha did not obey the order and the officer shot him.

The 25-year-old was shot very close to his house around 1:45.

Meanwhile, the police said that Rasha’s weapon was found 100 meters from the scene, which shows that there was no exchange of fire.

Police added that the young man has previously had problems with the law and claims that the road where the event took place is unlit, but residents say the opposite.

For Top Channels’s Anila Hoxha, one of the residents of the area, said that the street has appropriate lighting.

The victim’s father, meanwhile, told journalist Hoxha off-camera that his son had no weapon and never had one, although he added that the boy had had mental health problems in the past, now recovered.

Sources for Top Channel suggest that the victim has previously been convicted of intentional minor injury and “Illegal deprivation of liberty in 2016”.
