Police say they destroyed over 75 thousand cannabis plants grown in the Alps in northern Albania, 9 people in handcuffs

The agents of law agencies said today that after 18 phases, the “Clean Alps” operation has been completed to crack down on the illegal cultivation of cannabis in the region of Shkodra in the northwest of the country.

During the period from April 29 to October 4, 2023, when this operation began, a total of 75,903 cannabis sativa seedlings and narcotic plants were destroyed, while 9 suspected perpetrators of illegal cultivation were arrested, and 11 were declared wanted.

As a result of the final phase of this operation, a total of 3,520 plants were destroyed in the Pult and Saddle areas; 1108 plants in the villages of Shllak and Temal and 314 plants in the villages of Kastrat and Shkrel.

The officials said that the work is still going on to catch the wanted persons and to interrogate the suspects for other leads of illegal activities.
