Police results stuck in Lazarat

The implementation of the 2012 strategy for war against drugs seems to be failing in the Lazarat village.

The map of the places that produce cannabis sativa, a copy of which goes to all foreign law enforcing agencies that operate in Albania, has more data on the infamous village near Gjirokaster.

The annual meeting for war against the cultivation of narcotic substances, held on April 2012, referred only to Lazarat. The OSCE ambassador also demanded cooperation with the local administration, while the head of the Lazarat commune declared that the name of his village is often misused for manipulations, and that the situation is not as presented.

But for the Albanian police, the countdown has started, since the cannabis that will be produced in Albania during August and September must not be harvested or trafficked. One of the 12 EU priorities, and the most important after the dialogue between the parties, is war against organized crime, especially against drug. The recent reports of all agencies, including Interpol, have achieved significant results in the last year, except for Lazarat.

All reports say that Albania remains a drug exporting country in the region, and all the concerns are based on the photos taken from this village. Four years ago, the Prime Minister warned the Police that it was intolerable that big European chancelleries had photos from Lazarat.

After 2008, the Prime Minister has repeated the same refrain, but war against drug, which has now turned against Lazarat, has zero results and remains a black stain for the country.
